We recently made Bend more secure. One part of that is a quick check that the app on your phone is the official Bend app. On some phones the check fails. When it does, you might see:
- Routines you completed disappear from your history, or your streak resets
- You can't sign in or create an account, and only get a message like "An error occurred"
- A Streak Restore that says it worked, but your streak doesn't come back
- Messages asking you to try again later
- Exercise videos that won't load, even though the illustrations do
The good news is this is usually fixable on your end.
Try these steps
- Update Google Play Services and the Google Play Store. Google's guide walks you through it. If they're already up to date, the same guide shows how to clear their cache, which helps some people.
- Restart your phone.
- Try a different network. If you're on Wi-Fi, switch to mobile data, or the other way around.
- Turn off any VPN or ad blocker for now. Then check a setting called Private DNS. It should be on Automatic:
- Google Pixel, Motorola, Sony: Settings > Network & internet > Private DNS > Automatic
- Samsung: Settings > Connections > More connection settings > Private DNS > Automatic
- Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme: Settings > Connection & sharing > Private DNS > Automatic
- Vivo: Settings > More connections > Private DNS > Automatic
- Other phones: open Settings and type "Private DNS" in the search bar at the top
- Check that your date and time are set automatically: Settings > System > Date & time.
- Make sure you got Bend from the Google Play Store. If you downloaded it anywhere else, that version can't pass the check. Install it from Google Play instead.
- Update Bend from the Play Store if an update is available.
- Wait a few minutes, then open Bend and try again.
Still having trouble?
The check will also fail on phones that are rooted or run a modified version of Android. There's no way around that.
